Bake With Me: Pumpkin Bread with Brown Butter Maple Icing

Since fall is officially here, I thought I’d ring it in with some fall baking. In my house, all of the fall scented candles have been lit and riding boots brought out…all that we needed was a new fall recipe. Today, I made a Pumpkin bread. Pumpkin is basically the definition fall, so i figured that I had to start off my fall baking with it. This bread is perfect with a cup of tea for breakfast, a snack, or even for dinner.  Here’s how I made it!
*adapted from Hayley Parker of The Domestic Rebel*

Ingredients for the Bread:
1 & 1/2 cups of all-purpose flour
1/2 a cup of unsalted butter softened (one stick)
1 Cup of light or dark brown sugar (whichever you prefer)
1 Cup of pumpkin pie filling
2 Large Eggs
1 teaspoon of cinnamon
1 teaspoon of baking powder
1 teaspoon of baking soda
1 teaspoon of salt
Ingredients for the Glaze:
1/2 cup of unsalted butter (one stick)
2 cups of confectioners/powdered sugar
2 & 1/2 tablespoons of maple syrup
A large dash of milk (add more if need be.)

     Directions:
    1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Then, spray your pan of choice with cooking spray. I chose to bake mine in a bundt pan, but a regular loaf pan will do just fine.
    2. In a large bowl, combine all of the above ingredients for the bread and beat (with a handheld mixer or standing one) scraping down the sides. Continue until well mixed.
    3. Pour the bread mixture into the your pan. Bake for about 35-40 minutes, or until you insert a toothpick in the middle and it comes out clean. Also, don’t let the sides of the bread get too brown and crispy! Cool for about 15-20 minutes, then turn it over on to a wire rack to cool completely.
    4. While the bread is cooling, it’s time to start your glaze. In a small saucepan, melt the butter on medium to high heat until it just starts to sizzle. Take the pan off of the heat and add in the powdered sugar and maple syrup. Stir that together, and then add the milk in until the mixture is completely smooth.
    5. Pour the glaze over the top of the loaf, top with pecans (optional,) and let it set. Once set, cut and serve!

Peter Pan Collar Dresses: Cute yet Classic

One of my favorite kinds of dresses are peter pan collar dresses. They are cute and chic yet sophisticated. They had the perfect classic touch to any outfit, whether that'd be for an interview, day at school, or an afternoon at the park. You can wear them so many different ways, such as, with a cardigan, over tights with boots/heels, under a blazer, or simply alone. These are some of my favorite peter pan collar dresses, enjoy! Cracking the (dress) Code

Lots of schools require a dress code, whether that may be a uniform or wearing a collard shirt to school each day and no denim. Sometimes, dress codes are great because you almost never have to figure out an outfit to wear school school. However, they're not so great because they don't allow nearly any creativity or self expression in terms of clothing and style. Style is one of the best ways to express yourself, but it's hard to do that with a dress code! Therefore, I am going to be sharing some of my tips on how to let some of your true style shine through, even when you are wearing a uniform each day.

(Creds to gossip girl, love that show!)

    Tip #1:
Accessorize! Add brightly colored or printed headbands, statement necklaces, arm candy, and colorful scarves to your uniform. If you are wearing a plain sweater or button down, add a colorful statement necklace on top with a statement watch or bracelet.

    Tip #2:
Change it up with a new hair do! Instead of going for the ponytail each day, try curling your hair, wearing it with a colorful headband, half up half down, or a new french braid. These will add a whole new taste to your look. Check out this website with a bunch of hairstyle tutorials that will spice up any outfit!

    Tip #3:
Wear a jacket and a pair of shoes that make a statement. If you have to wear a navy and white uniform, wear a plaid or pink jacket or peacoat. If you have to wear a white collard shirt each day with a plaid skirt, wear a puffer vest on top with some riding boots and printed knee high socks.

    Tip #4:
Add pops of color! Whether this may be a yellow or pink collard shirt, brightly colored tights, or a printed tie. It will add a huge pop to your whole outfit, and really make it stand out. If you are wearing a pink button down, add a white sweater over it and throw a cute headband in. Or maybe a white skirt and a black skirt with a pair of yellow leggings underneath.

    Tip #5:
Decorate your school supplies. Add cute keychains and pins to your backpack. Cover your notebooks, laptops, and planners with tons of stickers and fun prints! One of my favorite things to do each school year is add a cute, printable binder covers into each of my binders. Just type in "cute printable binder covers" into google images, pick them, print them out, and slip them right in your binders! They make your notebooks so cute and custom to you. It will also be really easy to identify which ones are yours at school.

    Back To School Essentials

It's that time of year again where everyone is headed back to school. I know we don't all love it, but it's something we just got to do, haha! Today, I am going to be sharing my back to school essentials with you guys that definitely help me when going back to school, and I think they will be beneficial to you guys too. Enjoy!

    1. A Planner
If you ask anyone, they will always say what an organization freak I am....and it's true! That's why my planner is so important to me at school. In it, I write down homework assignments, meeting/activity days, and many other to do lists. I don't know where I would be without my planner. Some places that carry great planners are Target, Day Designer, Hallmark, Lilly Pulitzer, and Staples. If planners aren't your thing, I would recommend keeping to do lists in the notes app on your phone or any journal/notebook.

    2. A Water bottle
It is so important to stay hydrated throughout a busy day at school, so I always keep a water bottle with me. I use my camelbak everyday, but you can use any kind you like! I prefer reusable bottles (you should also check out the brand Swell, they have great water bottles,) but you can also carry a plastic one too. I have also seen a lot of people decorate their water bottles with stickers. If you're looking for some cute personalized stickers, check out Red Bubble.

    3. A sweater/light jean jacket
Where I live, it is still pretty hot out when we go back to school. Therefore, I am still wearing some of my summer clothes. Although, some of my classes can be pretty cold so I always recommend having a sweater or light jean jacket with you at all times!

    4. A granola bar/morning snack
When you eat breakfast as early as 6:30am, it is pretty easy to get hungry again by mid morning. I like to keep a snack with me during my morning classes before lunch so I can keep my energy up and feel replenished.

    5. Extras: Headbands/Hair Ties, Powder, Concealer, and lip gloss or lip balm.
These last few items are definitely essentials. In case you get hot and want to put your hair up, pack some hair ties and headbands in your back pack! Don't forget some powder, concealer and lip balm in case you want to touch up your makeup throughout the day.
